The 7 year itch...

This past weekend I celebrated my 7 years of marriage with Papa(Littley's dad).  We are not the type of family to celebrate birthdays, Christmas etc...I know it sounds sad, but we've been living a very long way from home so its always just been the two of us, so we don't really fuss...much rather save up for a luxury cruise!  Now that's a celebration!

I cannot believe I have been married for 7 years, so I have decided to write about the 7 things I know I love about my marriage, the 7 things I don't love(gonna keep it real and honest) and lastly my 7 pieces of advice that I have gained from my marriage...

7 things I know I love about my marriage:
1.  I know I love coming home and cuddling up in front of the telly every night
2.  I know I love that I can use him in any excuse to get out of
3.  I know I love that I don't have to kill the spiders or take out the trash
4.  I know I love that he is everything I ever wanted in a husband
5.  I know I love that we have the same values and morals
6.  I know I love that he is sexy :)
7.  I know I love that he has given me the best gift ever...my beautiful daughter

7 things I have learnt I don't love:
1.  I don't love that I have lost my independence
2.  Justifying the spend on every single grocery trip
3.  Papa is more attracted to me when I'm thinner(gotta get back into shape soon), he still loves me
4.  When I'm watching TV and I get asked to do something or questioned, I have to pause every time a sentence comes my way...can you say annoying...
5.  This is actually tougher then I thought...I think I'll leave it at 4 unless something crops up

7 pieces of advice:
1.  When Papa asked my father for my hand in marriage he said he would give his blessing if we followed 1 rule...never go to sleep angry.  We never have...
2.  Never leave the house angry
3.  If I have a problem I can't face with my husband, I ask him to be my "girlfriend" and then I'm allowed to chat to him without being judged, he actually gives me advice on how to handle my situation with my husband...you won't believe how well it works.
4.  Believing and understanding that you both provide equally within the family.
5.  Knowing that he knows you and you know him and no one knows you better then each other
6.  Make sure he puts you first before any relationship IE. his mother...and vice versa...its a two way street
7.  This is my toughest one...make sure his family get the same amount of attention as yours do(that's if you both have good relationships with your parents)...it always ends up being one side or the other, then the kids follow suit...make it fair...

How many years have you been married(or together), and what is your love, hates and pieces of advice?

Load shedding...

I'm currently on holiday...with Papa and my Littley.

It was the first time Papa and I took Littley to the beach where we could enjoy it without her having one of her diva temper tantrums because she doesn't like the feel of sand in between her toes...she gets that from Papa.

Well I ran to pick her up in a surge of excitement, grabbed her and swung her around...and nearly landed on her little body as I lost my footing in the sand...embarrassed, that's what I was.  So I kept up the swinging action and continued running towards Papa, saying sheepishly "Did you see?  I nearly fell, how embarrassing".  He then replied, "shame, poor China"!  What the f.....freaking hell did he just say...and in front of all those people, why didn't he just call out, "BEACHED WHALE"!

Needless to say I was not a happy or Serene trooper that day, just earlier he made a comment about my mummy belly...something about it not being Littley's fault I'm like this, as she's now 18 months and my time to use her as an excuse is over.  Say what!!!!

OK, so this is how its gonna go down, I'm a lazy fatty!

The day has now slipped away, my depro mood changed to analytical mood.  As hard as it was to hear those things, I have to admit that I have been too lazy to loose my baby weight and yes, its true I'm fat...well the doctors call it obese...even better!

I now know the reason those comments hurt so much was because they were true!  If I was healthy and in shape I could probably brush them off and have a good laugh.

Later that day I spoke to Papa about how his comments made me feel, he was horrified, he never meant to make me feel that way, he said he was joking.  Hmmmm some joke, anyway, we have come up with a plan together to shed the load...

So my advice is, if you get these terrible comments, worst thing would be to internalise them, that will just make you run for the fridge more then ever.  Discuss the hurt that came from the comments and make an action plan to get YOU to a happier place...and remember its to make YOU happy no one else...

Chocolate, time and sharing...

Today Littley is 18 months old, that means Papa(Littely's dad and my hubby) and I have not had much time to be our former selves, you know the type...carefree, limited responsibilities, Saturdays were days for lazy afternoon naps, you could "pop" to the shops...ahhh thought you'd know what I'm talking about.

Anyway I divulge.  Today I dedicate this day to my secret recipe for my successful marriage, with kid in tow.  Let me begin by saying, before Littley arrived, everyone warned us that our relationship would take its toll.  Well  I'm not going to lie it did, but when Littley was just a wee 2 weeker baba I remember so vividly standing in our end of terrace London home, just past 1am, snow had freshly fallen outside, so it was a bit nippy(unusual for this time of the year, but beautiful nevertheless) any way we began to argue, the argument I believe most, if not all, parents go through.  You know the argument...the "I do more then you do, you don't know what its like for me..." argument.

Well on that early morning, Mama Bear(my mother and Littleys granny) came bolting out of her guest room, there the three of us stood nose to nose...come now, we all know how tiny those London terrace houses are...and she gave the two us "what for" in a hushed voice(due to sleeping Littley), about how we both do just as much for each other, we're just too tired to notice it.

I think that was the last time we argued about that subject, from then on we created a recipe for our successful marriage, after childbirth, we started eating a lot more chocolate...mmmm...  Lindt being a favourite.  We got Littley sleep trained (read Sleep Sense, by Megan Faure, child genius), it was hard, but today she is down at 6:30pm and up at 7am(since she was 5 months old), the rest of the evening is left for the two of us to spend time together.  We make a point to chat and find out how each others day has gone.

My final ingredient is sharing, sometimes Papa does his fair share, but at times he gets used to letting me do it all....so I came up with an ingenious technique...its fail proof.

When I'm cooking/cleaning or what have you, I say "Papa, I need to cook, so can you bath Littley?"  then I get the look.  "Well Papa, you are welcome to cook, I can clean Littley, but the choice is yours."  It works every time a coconut...

I hope you can take something away from what I've said, maby you have your own recipe.  Please feel free to share, I love hearing from you all and I'm sure the other readers would love it too.
