Chocolate, time and sharing...

Today Littley is 18 months old, that means Papa(Littely's dad and my hubby) and I have not had much time to be our former selves, you know the type...carefree, limited responsibilities, Saturdays were days for lazy afternoon naps, you could "pop" to the shops...ahhh thought you'd know what I'm talking about.

Anyway I divulge.  Today I dedicate this day to my secret recipe for my successful marriage, with kid in tow.  Let me begin by saying, before Littley arrived, everyone warned us that our relationship would take its toll.  Well  I'm not going to lie it did, but when Littley was just a wee 2 weeker baba I remember so vividly standing in our end of terrace London home, just past 1am, snow had freshly fallen outside, so it was a bit nippy(unusual for this time of the year, but beautiful nevertheless) any way we began to argue, the argument I believe most, if not all, parents go through.  You know the argument...the "I do more then you do, you don't know what its like for me..." argument.

Well on that early morning, Mama Bear(my mother and Littleys granny) came bolting out of her guest room, there the three of us stood nose to nose...come now, we all know how tiny those London terrace houses are...and she gave the two us "what for" in a hushed voice(due to sleeping Littley), about how we both do just as much for each other, we're just too tired to notice it.

I think that was the last time we argued about that subject, from then on we created a recipe for our successful marriage, after childbirth, we started eating a lot more chocolate...mmmm...  Lindt being a favourite.  We got Littley sleep trained (read Sleep Sense, by Megan Faure, child genius), it was hard, but today she is down at 6:30pm and up at 7am(since she was 5 months old), the rest of the evening is left for the two of us to spend time together.  We make a point to chat and find out how each others day has gone.

My final ingredient is sharing, sometimes Papa does his fair share, but at times he gets used to letting me do it all....so I came up with an ingenious technique...its fail proof.

When I'm cooking/cleaning or what have you, I say "Papa, I need to cook, so can you bath Littley?"  then I get the look.  "Well Papa, you are welcome to cook, I can clean Littley, but the choice is yours."  It works every time a coconut...

I hope you can take something away from what I've said, maby you have your own recipe.  Please feel free to share, I love hearing from you all and I'm sure the other readers would love it too.

  3. I can totally relate to this post - and I don't even have children yet! Sometimes it's so easy to focus on yourself and your needs, that you forget to take your partner's needs into consideration - and let all the little things he DOES slip by unnoticed. Thanks for the reminder!
